Numero uno, CONGRATULATIONS on the making of Dead Man’s Cake. A highly personal record and one that required quite a bit of courage to create, I’m sure. Well produced, great players, including that sax player Barrows, who I’m very happy to hear shine in his own element….what a ROCKER. It’s hard to imagine anyone would have advised you to contract another singer. Not only is your voice clearly the obvious vehicle for such personal material, but you sound good bro… who you tryin to kid? Love all the sax solos…

Wow, Dave. First, it is great to hear from you. Second, it is great to read your story. I don’t think I knew all of that about you and I am so admiring of your activism. I am so sorry about your mother. I also firmly support mental health…my mom is a psychotherapist. You are brave and amazing Dave. Awesome horns!!!!

I’m sorry I did not write sooner to tell you how much I love your CD. It is excellent, excellent. I love all of the songs. It’s really moving on so many levels to listen to it. Truly a beautiful heart-felt work of art. Thank you so much for this amazing gift.

The virtuosity of your playing, the range of style and mood of your songs, and the overall quality of the production, was just jaw dropping. I think you have produced a remarkable piece of work, about a journey and the search for understanding, which I found both moving and inspiring.

I think it’s also about integrity, and what it is to search for and to live a good life. In this I wholeheartedly salute you Dave. You are putting something honourable and remarkable, of which this CD is an amazing document. Thank you for sharing this Dave. Respect is due!

I found the cover story so compelling that I sat and read the lyrics on your album from start to finish and didn’t get to bed until 1.30. Your lyrics are so moving and resonant. I listened to the album all the way through tonight while I was cooking dinner. Your voice sounds great and the sax playing is wonderful.

Thanks for sharing this, Dave. It is an amazing magnus opus.

Hey David, what a nice work you have done! and I feel so proud you finally completed an important part of your life. Hopefully it was healing as well. I feel inspired to recreate or tell my journey. I would love to write a book and make art pieces to go with it, in which not only I can talk about my past, but also be able to inspire people.

Loved the album. Thanks for sharing. Very personal and intimate. A lot of great creativity and playing… really like the way you put the whole package together. The journey and concept of the album. Very ballsy of you to make this album. One of my favorites is Dead Man’s Cake. Your voice is really good, also. I’m glad you made that choice to sing your own songs.

[My friends] really liked the album also. They admire your strength and courage to put something out there so personal to your life’s journey. It really is a testament to children and people who survive another family member’s suicide. Your album could become a powerful healing tool for other people in similar circumstances; that they could look to your album as way to heal and come to terms with their grief…

It’s great Dave, really well done. Love the sax playing. Your voice really reminds me of Edwyn Collins…marvellous.
And for a worthy cause too – thumbs up for that.
